Take the Relationship Pattern Quiz

You might be here because..

  • Small conversations turn into the same painful fight.
  • One partner pushes for closeness while the other shuts down.
  • Trust, sex, or emotional safety has been damaged.
  • You love each other, but you do not know how to repair.
  • You want a therapist who understands queer relationships without needing a basic explanation.

How therapy helps

Together, we slow down the cycle underneath the conflict. Instead of deciding who is right or wrong, we map what happens between you: the triggers, protective moves, shutdowns, protests, fears, and unmet longings. From there, we work toward clearer communication, emotional safety, repair, and a more secure bond.

Is this for us?...

This may be a good fit if:

  • you are an LGBTQ+ couple in Ontario
  • you keep getting caught in the same conflict loop
  • one or both partners shut down, pursue, withdraw, protest, or feel emotionally alone
  • you want a therapist who understands queer relationships, attachment, trauma, and repair
  • you are willing to slow the pattern down and practice new ways of reaching for each other

This may not be the right fit if:

  • there is current violence or coercive control requiring crisis/safety support
  • one partner is being forced to attend
  • you are looking for a therapist to decide who is right
  • you need emergency mental health support

Our services are fee for service and not covered by OHIP.  While many clients pay out of pocket for their sessions, most prefer to use their extended benefits. We are happy to support you however we can if you do not have extended benefits coverage.

When looking at your benefits package, determine if you have coverage forthe following:

  • Registered Social Worker (M.S.W. or R.S.W.)

At The LGBTQ+ Relationship Room, the therapist is a social worker with extended training to work with relationships. If you have coverage for another type of practitioner, we are able to provide referral suggestions.

When calling to inquire about services, please note:

  • All therapist types covered under your plan.  Most clients know that they have psychologists/psychotherapy coverage, but double check that you also have social worker coverage.
  • Note when your coverage year starts and ends (it is not always the calendar year)
  • How much coverage you have per year to budget your sessions.

Individual sessions are typically 60 minutes, while couples or family sessions are 75 minutes.

The frequency of sessions will depend on your individual needs and goals. Some couples prefer to come in weekly, while others prefer bi-weekly or monthly sessions. The number of sessions is determinant on your situation. While some situations can be resolved within 8 to 10 sessions, many of our clients require more. We have found that for couples to strengthen their bond, they often require a minimum of 12 to 20 sessions. However, individual results may vary - please contact us to inquire further for consultation.
